MEDIC, Mohawk’s mHealth & eHealth Development and Innovation Centre works as an industry catalyst to facilitate innovation and adoption of digital technology into the healthcare sector. MEDIC will help to bridge the gap between the needs of the healthcare system and innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that can address these needs. The centre also helps SMEs to overcome the technical, regulatory and relationship barriers to market entry that often impede product and service development, as well as work with SMEs and public and private sector organizations on developing innovations in health IT; digital health; mobile health; consumer and patient solutions; regional health authority solutions; personal health records; mobile applications; interoperability and more.

MEDIC will be a catalyst in the adoption of digital health in Canada. The Centre will help prepare Canadian products for export to global markets, in part by adhering to international standards. For example, in the USA “meaningful use” is the set of standards defined by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that governs the use of electronic health. This represents a significant market opportunity for Canadian companies looking to export their technology to the U.S., however most SMEs do not have the resources to track such developments. The Centre will act as a subject matter expert in these issues and share this information with SME partners.
